Meet the Staff

Lisa Therrien

I've been making quilts for about 25 years and now own Mad River Quilting.  I love the whole piecing process from initial idea to finished top.  I don't know if I really have a favorite color or even color combination but I do know that I'm not so good at the pastel pallette.  I love picking out fabric combinations and then watching them blend and contrast as the blocks come together.  Most of my quilts are based on geometric designs with rich colors and strong contrast.  Since I also teach math (8th graders!), I guess it makes sense that I love the designing and calculating part as well.  I often see a pattern I like and immediately reach for the graph paper and colored pencils.  Quilting has brought me many hours of quiet creativity and incredible friends along the way.  I look forward to meeting you and hearing your quilting story as well.

Kassy Bickford

I am a high school student at Harwood Union.  I have not had a lot of experience with quilting although I have made a table runner and a baby quilt.  I've also watched my mom my whole life.  I am going to make my first bed size quilt this year.  I decided to do this because I have always liked looking at all the fabric colors and designs.  The pattern I picked is an optical illusion.  I like looking at things that you can see in different ways.  I am learning a lot about running a business by helping with the paperwork and learning how to do inventory on the computer.  I've also learned that it's not so bad having my mom for a boss.  Eventually, I hope to run my own business and I know all this experience will be a great background for me.

Sarah Page

Sarah Page spent her first thirty years of adulthood teaching English to two wonderful generations of schoolchildren at Harwood Union High School in South Duxbury. She plans to spend the next thirty years, or so, making bright, happy quilts. She has enjoyed fiber arts since she made her first quilt at her mother's knee at the age of nine. She has made clothing (much of it eclectic) for almost her entire life, and became a devoted quilter about fifteen years ago. She loves bright primary colors, batiks, and off-the-grid art quilting. She lives in Duxbury with her husband, Robert, and her passive aggressive cat, Pipkin.
